First, the activities. We started the day with a trip to the "Miracle of Birth Center." Folks, you cannot un-see some of the things we saw in that barn. But check out the adorable picture above of a cow and her baby calf, who was born 30 minutes before that pic was taken! Other highlights included a parade of giant animals and princesses on a tractor, a hilarious haunted house, go-karts, "State Fair Bingo" and my personal favorite - the butter sculptures of "Dairy Princesses," including her royal highness "MarJenna."
But of course, the main attraction at any state fair is the food...
My recommendation for maximizing your fair food intake is to share the food and just sample. This way you can try a lot of different "delicacies," and let's be honest, no one needs their own fried Twinkie (or do they?) Here's a full listing of the goodies we sampled:
- Poutine (fries, gravy and cheese curds)
- Fresh milk
- Fried cheese curds
- DEEP-FRIED CHEESEBURGER!
- Fried macaroni and cheese on a stick
- Bacon ice cream
- Honey ice cream
- Wine slushies
- Fried Snickers
- Fried Oreo
- Fried Twinkie
- Scotch Egg (hardboiled egg, wrapped in sausage and deep-fried)
- Doughsant (Cronut knock-off)
- Sweet Martha's Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Porkchop on a stick
- Fried cheese on a stick
I don't think I could possibly pick a favorite, it was all worth trying! But suffice it to say, I'm pretty pumped to eat some salads this week and hit up the gym.
Stop back tomorrow for more details on the rest of my trip!
